best friends forever
September 1, 1922 – June 3, 2012) was African American writer who immigrated to the US with her family as a child and grew up in the metropolitan area. Orphaned at a young age and raised in foster homes, she was acclaimed for her books of fiction for adults and young people that stressed supportive relationships. " she was my friend I had to go to her" (Guy, 211). Phyllisia made that decision to go see her best friend no matter the cost. this book is a very fast pace book, things happens so fast. It's a fiction book that deals with both pain and love between family and friendship.
Firstly, I like the book because it’s a fiction book about a young girl, Phyllisia, who just moved to New York with both her sister and mother. The book is about a family that faces many hardships with the main character having a friend that is in need. The book shows how the true meaning of friendship works. The plot of the story is that Phyllisia must learn to accept that this is real life and save her friendship from family problems. She must accept the fact that when her friend is in trouble and needs her, then she should do everything she can to help her. Phyllisia is the main character with Ruby being the main character’s sister who always both bothers her and supports. Edith is the main character’s best friend who consistently supports her. "I needed Edith, I needed a friend who would understand what I'm going through"(Guy,122). The main character knew she couldn't find a better friend than her best friend Edith, who always understands her and what she's going through. Maria and Calvin are the main character’s parents who scold her but cares for her more than anyone else.
Secondly, I was amazed by how much seriousness was in the book. Everything was done was with gravity, and there was so much pain and love. I was most amazed by the lesson the main character learned at the end. I loved it. This book was in the top five of the best books I’ve read so far. The main character pushed you to read more and more every time. I couldn’t stop reading it, sometimes I found myself reading it for hours. I was sad when it ended because, it used to keep me entertained. It was filled with hardships, but nobody gave up. An example is when after the main character’s mother suddenly passed away, she didn’t lose hope. After a little while she got up and kept on being strong for her and her sister.
Lastly, I learned the true meaning of friendship in this book. It taught me that no matter what, you should never give up on friendship. When your friends are in trouble and need you, nothing else should matter but to help them. Phyllisia, the main character, taught me the true meaning of friendship when she left to go see her best friend who was in trouble even though her father forbid her. She went through many punishments because she went to help her best friend. She was like a role model to me because, I would do the same thing for my best friend. This book taught me so much about having family, friendship but most of all making it through it all together. The main character’s friend had many hardships and thought that no one was there for her, but Phyllisia showed Edith that you are never alone in this world when you have a friend. I would recommend for anyone who loves fiction and has a good imagination. I would also recommend it for the kind of person that loves good endings.
